Despite the threat of rain from forecasters (we’ll pardon them, won’t we?), this year’s Physio Race surged ahead under spectacular spring morning weather. Over 500 racers enjoyed the sunshine in the Kinemedics/PSI Physiotherapy Physio Race on April 18th – what a turnout! With the help of 25 volunteers, a whopping $20,000 was raised for Ontario Special Olympics, the Physiotherapy Foundation of Canada, and the Eastern Ontario District of the OPA.
In keeping with the spirit, a few therapy dogs also hit the course and as one owner put it, “the ever-changing race strategy of sniffing/eating grass, getting pet, and looking for squirrels” has yet to secure a podium finish, but certainly earned a well-deserved afternoon snooze.
In addition to the title sponsorships, generous support was also provided by Suplasyn, Targe, and ClinicMaster, as well as an extensive list of other groups who provided prizes for the fast as well as the lucky! While it was no surprise that most participants pursued other activities in the great weather, some stayed around for a mini tai-chi clinic in the sun, lead by Margaret Martin of Fitness to Function.
On behalf of the entire District, a sincere thank you goes out to race “queenpins”, Erin Morgan and Elyse Pratt-Johnson for their tireless dedication to putting everything together – rumour has it that they also slept soundly that night!
